Biography
Wendy ramshaw (FCSD FRSA OBE RDI
CBE) was born in Sunderland (UK) in 1939. Now she lives
and works in London. Between 1956 and 1960 she studied
illustration and fabric design at the Newcastleupon-Tyne
College of Art and Industrial Design. Then, in 1960-1961,
she studied at Reading university. She attended the Central
School of Art and Design in 1969 to undertake her postgraduate
studies. She was nominated freeman and lady liveryman of
the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in 1973 and 1986,
respectively. in June 1993 she was awarded Officer of the
Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the Queen for services
to the arts. She has been visiting professor at the Royal
College of Art in London between 1996 and 1999.
She designed and made on behalf of the new millennium
experience company the gold medal presented to H.M. Queen
Elizabeth II on 31st December 1999 to celebrate the new
millennium.
In 1999 she became an honorary fellow of the London Institute,
and was also elected RDI (Royal Designer for Industry).
In 2003 she was honoured as a Commander of the Order of
the British Empire (CBE) for services to art.
